Transportation

Access to the lodge can be gained through one of the local air services or by driving. If you choose to drive, it is very important to make preliminary arrangements with Paul for good directions and a timely boat ride across the lake. 

Penobscot Lake General Directions

Upon booking a reservation, we will send explicit directions to the Penobscot Lake parking/boat pick-up area.  In general, take Interstate 95 to the Newport, Maine Exit. Follow Route 7 to Dexter and take Route 23 to Sangerville.  Take Routes 6/15 to Greenville and on to Rockwood. From Rockwood, Penobscot Lake is 41 miles through the Northwoods on decent dirt roads.  A passenger car should not have difficulty traveling to the Lake.

If You Choose to Fly In

Professional pilots who fly floatplanes in this environment on a daily basis provide air services. The 30-40 minute flight will enable you to see for yourself this great vast woodland. If you do fly, it should be considered one of the highlights of your trip to the Northwoods. The cost of a flight to Penobscot is approximately $100 per person one way. Rates vary depending upon initiation point and air service company selected. Here are four that we have worked with:
